What Is an Industrial PC That Works in a Wide Temperature Range?
An industrial PC that can work in a wide temperature range is a computer designed to operate at temperatures outside standard indoor conditions. These computers can be used on factory floors, in control cabinets, in outdoor enclosures and in industrial facilities where temperature changes occur.
While standard commercial computers are generally designed for controlled environments, industrial computers can, depending on the model, support wider operating temperature ranges. However, not every industrial PC has the same temperature resistance.
What should you consider when choosing?
- The minimum and maximum operating temperature stated by the manufacturer
- The actual temperature range of the environment where the computer will be used
- Processor load and the heat generated
- Fan-cooled or fanless cooling design
- Temperature limits of the storage device and other components
- Ventilation and cooling conditions inside the cabinet
For example, a computer in a control cabinet near a hot production line and a computer used in an air-conditioned control room may not have the same environmental requirements.
When evaluating the operating temperature range, the operating conditions stated by the manufacturer for the whole computer, not only the processor, should be taken into account.
