Can an Industrial PC Be Used in Environments with Vibration?
Yes. Properly designed and tested industrial computers can be used to operate under certain vibration conditions. This feature is important in production machines, mobile equipment, transport systems and other industrial applications where vibration is present.
Over time, vibration can loosen connections, damage mechanical components or cause problems in storage devices. However, the level of resistance is not the same in every computer model.
What should you consider when choosing a PC for environments with vibration?
- The vibration and shock resistance values stated by the manufacturer
- Storage options without moving mechanical parts, such as SSDs
- Securing of cables and connectors
- Suitability of mounting hardware
- The level of vibration the computer will be exposed to during operation
Using an SSD can reduce some risks arising from moving parts compared with mechanical hard drives. However, it does not by itself prove that the computer is resistant to vibration.
Especially on mobile machines or lines with heavy vibration, the product's test conditions should be compared with the real application conditions.
