How to Choose an Industrial PC for Using Multiple Monitors?
In industrial applications, multiple monitors can be used for purposes such as monitoring the production line, displaying SCADA screens, quality control and informing operators. Multiple screens can make the operator's job easier by providing access to more information at the same time.
However, a computer's ability to support multiple monitors does not depend only on the number of physical connections. The graphics unit's capacity, supported screen resolutions, connection types and operating system support should be evaluated together.
The following criteria should be considered when choosing a PC:
- Number of screens: How many monitors will work at the same time should be determined.
- Resolution: Each screen's resolution and refresh rate should be checked.
- Video outputs: The number and characteristics of HDMI, DisplayPort or other connections should be examined.
- Graphics unit: It should be verified whether the integrated graphics unit in the CPU or a separate GPU meets the need.
- Adapters and converters: Compatible converters can be used when necessary; however, the resolution and number of screens they support should be checked.
- Mounting and environmental conditions: Suitability for the cabinet or machine environment where the computer will be used should be evaluated.
For example, if four monitors are planned, having four video outputs on the computer is not enough on its own. The graphics unit must support four screens at the same time and be able to deliver the targeted resolutions.
Conclusion: When choosing an industrial PC for multi-monitor applications, the number of screens, resolution, graphics performance and connection compatibility should be verified together.
