What Are the Differences Between USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and USB-C?

USB is the connection standard that lets computers exchange data with peripherals and supply power to supported devices. In industrial computers it can be used for keyboards, mice, barcode readers, cameras, storage devices and various measuring instruments.

  • USB 2.0: Theoretically offers data transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps. It may be sufficient for keyboards, mice and many basic peripherals.
  • USB 3.x: Depending on the version, offers higher data transfer speeds than USB 2.0. It can be an advantage for high-speed cameras and external storage devices.
  • USB-C: A connector form. It does not by itself specify data transfer speed. Depending on the supported device and connection standard, it can carry data, power and video.

When choosing an industrial PC, pay attention not only to the number of USB ports but also to the supported versions, connector type, power requirements and compatibility of the devices to be connected.
